DESCRIPTION:Estimated Costs $9941 for the astronomers gas and facility25 fo

e of the dark zones in California.  We are having 3 legitimate astronmers
join us for a weekend of stargazing along with troop 636 and Troop 1210.
The astronomers are bringing professional telescopes and this is well be
yond what you typically get to see during the astronomy merit badge at sum
mer camp.  The merit badge is available but even if you have it this will
be an interesting and thoughtful weekend learning about the cosmos.   No
te we might leave late Sunday or early Monday\, depending on adult availab
ility.  Distance is 270 miles there and back. FRIDAY: Leave home from wh
erever is your troop’s jump off point. Take the 241 Toll Road north …
91 Freeway east … Interstate 15 north to Kramer Junction (break and gas)
… then on to Lone Pine (lunch) … then Independence … then Big Pine.
Just north of Big Pine\, turn right on Highway 168\, and go east. At abou

he early afternoon to set up camp and rest. All need a good night’s slee
p Friday night as we will be up late Saturday night and up again early Sun
day morning. My preference is that we all stay Sunday day and night and dr
ive home first thing on Monday. This I think is the safest option. Driving
home Sunday after being up all night I don’t like. Remember the Sweet 1
6 of Scouting safety.FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING: set up camp …relax…
early dinner.SATURDAY MORNING: Rise and shine and cook breakfast.Tour and
demos by Caltech OVRO Dr. Mark Hodges\, Radio Astronomer at 10:00 am. Lunc

scope. After Dark Star Party. Deep sky objects galore…binary stars…star
clusters…Messier Objects galore. And a crescent moon.Mercury should be
visible over the Sierra crest (8 degrees). Mars will be up.Tour the Milky
Way and the constellations with Dr. Crockett and his famous Aries Green La
ser Pointer with 532nm Wavelength and 121.1 mW Power Output.Sunset is abou
t 8:30 pm so we will be up late…about 11:00 pm. Lots of hot chocolate an
d goodies as the evening progresses.Go to bed.Sunday Morning: Up at 3:30 a
m to view the planets Venus and Saturn through telescopes. Uranus will be
 a bluish-green ball.Back to bed…sleep in …late breakfast.SUNDAY DAY: F

to accomidate thoes who have lesser schedules.   Parents\, we can use hel

just an idea that should be presented\, and if selected the PLC and troop

DESCRIPTION:Hey Scouts and Parents!Usually\, our PLC meetings are held on t
he first Tuesday of every month\, but not on Tuesday\, December 2nd! This
PLC meeting is mainly going to be used for mistletoe preparation.  Every
year around the holidays\, our troop uses mistletoe that the city cuts dow
n to make small bags of it to sell. This meeting\, on December 2\, is goin
g to be about packing the mistletoe. There will most likely be hot chocol
ate! Class A or B is not required for this meeting. PJ's\, especially fest
ive ones\, are suggested. Please wear scouting-appropriate clothes\, basic
ally what a middle school dress code would say.  Even if you do not plan
on selling\, this does help out others in the troop who do plan on selling
get the product they need.  Mistletoe will be sold at a recommended don
ation of $5 but some give more.  100% of this fundraising goes to your sc
outing account! This can help pay for National Jamboree\, Philmont\, Summe
r camp\, troop attire\, and pretty much any scouting related expense..

and educational trip designed for Boy and Girl Scout troops. During the d
ay\, scouts will learn basic knowledge of river topics such as safety\, hy
drodynamics\, necessary skills to navigate a river\, swimming in current\,
and how to identify potential hazards. At the conclusion of the day\, the
Trip Leader will give a verbal quiz on the information that was taught du
ring the day. If the participating scout passes the test then they will be
rewarded their whitewater merit badge.Highlights:• Class II-III• Scou
ts can earn their Whitewater Merit Badge.• Great trip for large groups.

m.• Minimums: Age: 11 Weight: 50 lbs (We may weigh small children)•

Note that some trips before mid-June require a wetsuit. Reserve your we
tsuit by calling 760-376-3745. The Lickety Split and Lickety Blaster are o
ptional\, but we highly recommended a wetsuit due to the colder water cond
itions before mid-June. Trips are more fun if you are not cold. This will
ensure that we have a wetsuit set aside for you\, but be sure to reserve y
our size early. On big weekends we can run out. As an added bonus\, the re
ntal price is lower if you pre-book\, than if you rent one upon arrival.Ot
her optional items that may be useful during your trip may be purchased wh
en you arrive or ahead of time online through our River Store. There is fre
